Christopher Tester, CDI, SC:L
Deaf and a Vermont native, Christopher Tester, lives and works in New York City as an American and British Sign Language Interpreter, consultant, educator and a trainer. He devotes his free time to volunteering his consulting services to local coalitions that aim to provide advocacy for the Deaf and hard of hearing communities in New York City’s legal system.
He is certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and holds Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI). He has eight years of professional experience as a former manager/ trainer at Sorenson Communications and as a Special Projects Coordinator and Investigator at the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights. A seasoned presenter, he specializes in workshop and seminar facilitation on topics including (but not limited to) disability rights and laws, deaf and hard of hearing awareness and American Sign Language and interpreting. Christopher received his Bachelor’s degree at the College of the Holy Cross and his Professional Certificate from the Interpreter Education Program at LaGuardia Community College. He is a part time graduate student in the European Masters in Sign Language Interpreting (EUMASLI) program, and is expected to receive his masters degree by December, 2015 from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland. He is currently in private practice and is a part time interpreter supervisor for Mill Neck Interpreting Service. Christopher is always thrilled to travel to a new place and meet local community members and provide educational trainings or interpreting services.
