Wendi is the Executive Director at the Betty and Leonard Phillips Deaf Action Center (DAC), where she has nurtured her passion for the field of deafness for over 30 years. To Wendi, this Center is more than an organization - it's home.
Wendi holds the National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and is a Registered Louisiana Supreme Court interpreter (Reg. LASC). Her education includes a degree in Criminal Justice, and she is presently pursuing her BA in Business: Non-Profit Management.
Additionally, Wendi served as a deputy at the Bossier Parish Sheriff's offices for eight years, where she was post-certified and trained as a Detective. This life experience has equipped her with a unique perspective on improving interactions between the deaf community and law enforcement agencies. Her comprehensive understanding of the legal system, coupled with her refined interpreting skills, enables her to work effectively in this area and promote accessibility and inclusion. Her interpreting experience also spans a diverse range of settings, including medical, Legal, post-secondary education, and religious.
Wendi enjoys working closely with the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing (DDBHH) community, and takes pleasure in planning events and being hands-on during their execution. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Craig, her children, Wren, and Whitni, and her three grandbabies. She also loves tending to her mini farm, and thrifting and hanging out with her mom.
