Staff Interpreter Job Opening
Position: Staff Interpreter

Position Summary
The Staff Interpreter provides professional American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreting services in a variety of community and educational settings throughout the Deaf Action Center’s service area. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Interpreting Services and assists with departmental responsibilities during non-interpreting hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide professional ASL/English interpreting services in medical, educational, employment, community, government, and other settings as assigned.
• Maintain compliance with the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf (LCD) Interpreter Registry and applicable professional and ethical standards.
• Maintain required interpreting documentation, including Verification Forms.
• Assist with departmental responsibilities during non-interpreting hours, including scheduling, confirming assignments, billing, and other administrative duties.
• Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to after-hours interpreting needs during assigned periods.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, professional development, community events, fundraisers, and other organizational activities as assigned.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Interpreting Services or Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must be registered through the Louisiana Commission for the Deaf (LCD) Interpreter Registry and qualified to provide interpreting services in both community and educational settings.
• Hold Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or BEI Advanced or higher. Candidates holding BEI Basic may be considered based on experience, qualifications, and a demonstrated plan to pursue BEI Advanced certification.
• Associate’s Degree or a minimum of 60 college credit hours.
• Valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the Deaf Action Center’s service area.
• Ability to use email, scheduling systems, electronic documentation, and basic office technology.
• Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and after-hours periods, including participation in the on-call rotation.
